How a course with us actually works

From the first phone call to ongoing support afterward, here is what to expect at each stage.

1

Initial conversation

A short call or email exchange to understand what a learner wants to be able to do, whether that's texting grandchildren or setting up online banking.

2

Skill check-in

A brief, informal review of current comfort level. This isn't a test. It just helps decide where a course should start.

3

Choosing a path

Based on the check-in, a learner and coordinator settle on a starting course or track, whether that's a single topic or a broader combination.

4

Scheduling sessions

Sessions are booked around a learner's routine. Morning, afternoon, and some evening slots are typically available.

5

Ongoing support

After a course wraps up, learners can reach out with follow-up questions by phone or email for a set period.

Choosing a Setting

In-person sessions vs. remote video sessions

Both formats teach the same material. The difference is mostly about comfort, travel, and the equipment already on hand.

In-Person Sessions

  • Requires travel to a scheduled location
  • Instructor can point directly at the screen in hand
  • Useful for learners who find phone screens easier to read in person
  • Scheduling tends to follow fixed weekly slots

Remote Video Sessions

  • No travel required, sessions happen from home
  • Practice happens on the exact device used daily
  • Requires a stable internet connection and a working camera
  • Scheduling tends to be more flexible across the week
Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to already own a smartphone or computer?

No. Some learners start a course before purchasing a device, and lessons can include a plain-language walkthrough of what to look for when choosing one.

What if I fall behind during a lesson?

Sessions are built to be paused and repeated. There is no expectation of moving at a fixed speed, and instructors regularly slow down or revisit a step.

Can a family member join a session?

Yes, particularly in the Family Connection Circle path, though family members are welcome to sit in on individual sessions with advance notice.

Is this suitable if I've never used a computer at all?

Yes. The Starter Path is designed specifically for learners without prior experience on any device.

How long does a full course typically take?

This varies by topic and pace. A single-topic course often spans two to four sessions, while a combined track may run over several weeks.

Not sure which format fits best?

Our coordinators can walk through in-person and remote options together before anything is scheduled.
